Jim Whitney had a strong outing and Sam Wise had 3 base hits as the Boston
Beaneaters defeated the Philadelphia Quakers by the score of 10 to 1 at
Recreation Park.
Whitney(6-3) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Philadelphia batters. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 6 hits and
no walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 2.45 to 2.20. Boston totaled 14
hits on the afternoon.
Charlie Ferguson(6-2) was the losing pitcher. He was not very effective,
surrendering 10 runs in 9 innings. With this win, Boston has a 7-9 record.
They have been 6-4 lately. With the loss, the Philadelphia ballclub's record
is 9-6.
