The young Quaker's battery of pitcher Ferguson and catcher Crowley has come through yet again in another thrilling victory for the home nine. The match was tight at two scores for each team going into the eighth inning. The visiting Cleveland team scored one time to take the lead. The home club had many chances to take the lead but pitcher McCormick held strong. He was very tough on opposing pitcher Ferguson who was strcuk out on all four of his bats. McCormick was still strong into the home half of the last inning. Purcell led off with a single, followed by Manning;s high fly ball that brought him to second base with Purcell standing on third. Mulvey then struck out, bringing Ferguson to bat. He had no luck against McCormick in his first four bats, but came through with a one base hit to tie the contest and cheer the crowd, hoping to see a repeat of the tenth of this month when the battery combined for a great victory. Crowley thrilled the home town crowd with a sharp single to score Manning and win the game. Ferguson won his fourth game and Crowley's two hits raised his batting average to .400. Ferguson was very sharp and kept his free passes to just two. Manager Wright stated, "My young battery is a fine combination, as good as any I've seen."

Jack Manning hit 2 doubles and Charlie Ferguson had a complete game at
Recreation Park as the Philadelphia Quakers staged a comeback win over the
Cleveland Blues by the count of 4 to 3.

Philadelphia scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 2
runs utilizing 4 base hits. Blondie Purcell started the inning off right
when he stroked a one-base hit. Manning came next and he doubled. Joe
Mulvey followed, but he was set down on strikes. Ferguson was up next and he
ripped a base-hit. John Crowley came to the plate and lined a base-hit.
Philadelphia had 14 hits for the afternoon.

Ferguson(4-1) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Jim
McCormick(3-2) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for 14 hits and 2
walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Manning noted. 'It was
looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it
really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there
at the end!'

It was a beautiful afternoon at Recreation Park as the powerful Buffalo club took the field and quickly worried the home team crowd. Four tallies were recorded before Mr. Ferguson was able to retire a batter. It was very quiet as the Quakers came to bat in their half of the inning. But the home team rallied for six and the battle began. Center fielder Richardson brought home two of his mates with a mighty blast in the top of the second frame, once again quieting the home town followers. Pitcher Ferguson started a Quaker comeback in the bottom of the frame as three runs crossed the home plate to put them ahead by one, 8-7. Purcell brought McClellan home in the third for a 9-7 lead. McClellan continues his fine hitting this season. O'Rourke of the visitors quickly tied the contest with a blast over the fence scoring pitcher Hagan to tie the score at 9. Both teams held fast until the home team came through in their half of the eighth inning. Ferguson singled with one man out. His battery mate Crowley, with three previous hits, came through with a long blast for three bases, scoring the speedy Ferguson with what was the winning tally. Crowley came home on Farrar's fly out, and the home team blanked the visitors in the ninth. The battery of Ferguson and Crowley were cheered by the happy home team cranks.

The Quakers and Chicago nine locked up in a tight game at the grounds today. To the thrill of the Philadelphia home town rooters, the club and Mr. Ferguson came out with a victory. The visitors struck quickly before young Ferguson could get his bearings, scoring two on their first bat and another on their second. Two three base hits by Chicago had the home crowd on edge that perhaps Mr. Ferguson did not have his best "stuff." But the home side came through in the bottom half of the third inning when McClellan hit a two baser that brought the crowd to it's feet scoring two runs to tie the game. The crowd grew silent in the fourth inning when Pfeffer knocked one over the fence to give the visitors the lead once again. The Quakers came back quickly to take the lead with two markers in the bottom of the fourth. Young Ferguson kept the opposition off the score board until the ninth inning when Chicago tied the game on a double by Kelly bringing Gore home. Kelly then stole third base but Ferguson was able to retire Sunday on a ground out. With the score tied the Quakers took their ninth inning bat. Manning hit a hard two baser and Fogarty moved him to third on a sacrifice. Up came Ferguson with the home cranks on their feet. Charlie bounced one through the fielders for the game winner. Quite an exciting day at Recreation Park!
